On Thursday, Jan. 27, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Marlboro police received a 9-1-1 call from a homeowner who said that two male subjects, dressed in black, were on his driveway attempting to enter his vehicle, said Capt. Stephen Levy, a police department spokesman.

The two subjects could not gain entry as the vehicle doors were locked, Levy said. The subjects then left the property and got into a black SUV and fled the area, he said. The caller was able to provide police with a direction of travel for the suspect’s vehicle.

A short time later, Marlboro Patrolman Adam Levine reportedly was able to locate the vehicle in an adjacent development, traveling at a very low rate of speed, the captain said. After conducting an investigation at the scene and speaking with both the caller and all the occupants of the vehicle, Levine placed three suspects under arrest, Levy said.

They were transported back to Marlboro Police Headquarters for processing and the vehicle they were driving was impounded.

Arrested were: Omar Hairston, 49 of Newark; Jaquan Anderson, 21 of Newark; and a 17-year-old juvenile, whose name was not released due to his age, police said.

Hairston and Anderson were charged with attempted burglary and transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute in Freehold, the captain said. The juvenile was released to the custody of his father pending a juvenile complaint.

"An investigation is continuing and if we have probable cause that ties them to other break-ins, then additional charges will be lodged against them," Captain Levy said on Friday, Feb. 4.

The Marlboro Township Police Department would like to thank the homeowner for his quick action in dialing 9-1-1 and providing an accurate description of the suspects and their vehicle.

Marlboro Police Chief Peter Pezzullo would like to remind everyone to keep their vehicles locked, remove key fobs and other valuables including garage door openers from the vehicles and whenever possible, keep cars housed in the garage.
